My Dream Day

Since I’ll be celebrating my Birthday this week - I was thinking about - well Me - and that led me to think about….

My Dream Day!

with Aunt Marion a few weeks old.

I could certainly go all fancy fantasy - Paris, Hong Kong - maybe revisit a favorite haunt Bermuda, Chatham, MA or pop down to visit my BFF in Turks and Caicos but, my thoughts quickly fell to

New York City

and some of my very favorite places.

First stop would be the Metropolitan Museum of Art of course…

All my Met trips have been with my sister; from the first to see The Treasures of Tutankhamun in 1979 through our most recent in December. Liam was only 3 the first time he accompanied my sister Noreen, my niece Christina and I. I’m thrilled to say it’s one of his favorite places too!

After a little walk - into Central Park maybe to take in the view of the Boat Basin.

Then off to drinks at Center Bar Yum! Maybe I’ll enjoy a BFF cocktail that I had last month.

In my dreams we would be going to dine at Picholine but, alas Picholine is no more…I scoured the Internet for images of this extraordinary West 64th Street dining experience.

We are headed to The Whitby Bar & Restaurant for dinner.

* an addendum - due to the massive 7/13/2019 Power Outage we ended up dining at Del Posto

I found a few birthday images… My BFF Roschellie is featured in a few and in the last I’m giving my cousin Donnie his bottle of La Marca Prosecco as a party favor for a recent milestone birthday.

For my birthday it would be terrific if you could follow along on all my platforms and I hope you’re signed up for the weekly emails. It would be so lovely if you would get a friend to sign up for my emails too! I work really hard on my blog posts and the Internet is a vast place my friends!

Til next time! This crab says thanks a million for being here! xoxoxo🦀

A Day In The City! (Part 2)

A few weeks ago I went into New York City for day with my sister and my son - our goal to visit the Guggenheim and view the Hilma af Klint exhibit and meet my niece for dinner. Here’s part 2 of that day.

Liam took about 100 images on my sister’s phone that day!

Hilma af Klint (October 26, 1862 – October 21, 1944) was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings were among the first Western abstract art. A considerable body of her abstract work predates the first purely abstract compositions by Wassily Kandinsky. She belonged to a group called "The Five", a circle of women who shared her belief in the importance of trying to make contact with the so-called "High Masters" - often by way of séances. Her paintings, which sometimes resemble diagrams, were a visual representation of complex spiritual ideas. (from Wikipedia)

These smaller almost monotone works draw you in - you must get close to take in all the details.

After the obligatory stop at the gift shop we made our way along Fifth Avenue passing the Neue Galerie, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Frick Collection until we landed at the Boat Basin in Central Park. It was a glorious day!

We had a few hours to sit and relax, which never happens when we’re in the city, it was divine to just sit in the sunshine drinking a glass of wine and really savor the day before grabbing a cab to Herald Square to meet Christina for dinner at Stella 34 located on the 6th floor inside Macy’s.

After dinner we did a little shopping and we had to show Liam the wooden Escalator.

We’re so fortunate to be able to get into the City easily. It’s just over an hour and as the crow flies it’s less then 25 miles. How lucky are we?1? Next up may be The Met Breuer. Liam really loves modern art.

Til next time!
